Just your friendly reminder of the den meeting Thursday night at 6:30. We will once again be working on the care baskets for the animal welfare center. Don’t forget to bring items from home from the request list. If you did not receive this list via email from Charles, it should be available on the website, www.pack250ri.org. Or just email me back and I can get this to you.
I hope to get a little more organized and begin emailing weekly reminders of specific advancement or elective items to work on with your son to make sure we all achieve the Wolf Badge by the end of the scouting year. So be watching for this starting next week.

just wanted to send a quick email reminder of tomorrow night’s Cub Scout den meeting. As usual, it will be a busy agenda. The focus of the meeting will be Flag Night, and completing several requirements under Achievmement 2 in your Wolf Den handbook.
We will learn about the American Flag, and learn how to display and properly fold the flag. We will also learn about our State flag. After that, we will work on our den flag again. We will make new handprints, as the ones we did the first night got damaged in storage before the names dried. This time, we’ll just use simple fabric markers
We’ll work with the Scouts on what else they want on the flag and if not complete it, at least get a good portion done.
At the meeting, I will hand out a health habits chart for each scout to complete and bring back for the next meeting in two weeks (Achievement 3a). We’ll also learn a song and I’m sure have plenty of fun.
I am following a schedule from the Scouting web-site for the most part, which makes sure we complete the 12 achievements for advancement. However, there will changes. For example, they suggest playing flag football at the third meeting, and other formal games. That’s something I think we’ll have to have a special Saturday meeting or other time for. We can discuss this. For the fourth meeting of the year, however, they recommend planning a bowling outing. This would allow us to complete the bowling belt loop and pin elective, and be fun for the boys. However, it would be a week night. think about this, and if you would like to have our meeting on the 17th at a bowling alley, or have a regular meeting at the church.
Finally, I am getting organized in tracking the boys progress, specifically in earning academic and sports belt loops and pins. I know I did not do a good job reporting Nils’ own accomplishments last year in earning these awards. If your boy plays organized sports, they have probably already earned some of these awards. You can find an online link to this program here: http://www.geocities.com/~pack215/academics-sports.html. Or ask me, and I can print out the requirements for you. I will bring some information to the meeting on this. But please make sure to report to me any of these awards your scout earns, so I can report them to Charles and make sure they receive their belt loops and pins.
Next Den Meeting, Thursday, August 20th, 6:30 pm. This will be a busy meeting. We will finish our den flag, work on a skit to be presented at the August 27th Pack Meeting, and complete the Feats of Skill elective in your Wolf Den handbook. Make sure to look through your handbook and be prepared to do the 5 required skills and one of the 5 optional skills.
Saturday, August 22nd. Xtreme Cleanup, Sunset Marina, 8:30 to 11:30. If you can participate, this is a great community involvement exercise. We will help cleanup the shores of Sunset Marina with other volunteer groups. More details at the 20th Meeting.
Pack Meeting, Thursday, August 27th. This is our first Pack meeting of the year. We will perform our skit for the entire pack and have other fun activities.
Campout at Conservation Club Grounds, Big Island, Saturday, August 29th. The webelos will be camping out Friday and Saturday Night, but Wolf Scouts are welcome to campout Saturday night. If you don’t wish to stay overnight, you can come out after 3:00 with the family for a cookout and some fun, but then leave before nightfall. Bring your own meat to grill and a dish to pass if planning to attend. Any Wolf Scout wishing to stay overnight will need one parent to stay with them. Nils and I are planning to stay, assuming the weather is good, and this will be his first overnight campout.
